Ariel is a sixth generation Montanan, born and raised in Big Timber. She graduated from Reed Point High School in 2002 where she was a four-time All-State basketball standout. Ariel graduated from Princeton University in 2006 with a degree in anthropology with honors. She graduated from the University of Montana School of Law in 2016 with honors. During law school, Ariel was a member of the Public Land and Resources Law Review, received a graduation award for "exceptional dedication and diligence" for her work in the Land Use and Natural Resources Clinic, served as research assistant to water and land use professor Michelle Bryan, and published an article “Extraordinary Protections for the Industry that Feeds Us: Examining a Potential Constitutional Right to Farm and Ranch in Montana” in the February 2016 issue of the Montana Law Review.
Prior to law school, Ariel served as Montana Stockgrowers Association communications director. Ariel lobbied for the Stockgrowers and the Montana CattleWomen at the 2009, 2011, and 2013 Montana Legislative Sessions.
Ariel is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Montana and sits on the Leadership Montana Board of Governors. She serves as vice president of the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame & Western Heritage Center. Ariel's grandfather, Cap Overstreet, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012. She is a volunteer applicant interviewer for the Princeton University Alumni Schools Committee. Ariel is a supporting member of the Montana Stockgrowers Association, Montana CattleWomen, Montana Farm Bureau Federation, and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
Ariel and her husband, Zac Adkins, enjoy spending time at her family's small horse ranch north of Big Timber and cabin up the Boulder.
