Brent is admitted to practice in Montana courts, federal district courts, the U. S. Circuit Courts for the Federal and Ninth Circuits, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He previously practiced in litigation, and now primarily practices in the areas of mediation, wills, and special projects.
Brent was born in Great Falls, Montana, and graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in mathematics. After teaching mathematics and science for two years with the Peace Corps in India, he returned to Montana to obtain his J.D. degree from the University of Montana.
Brent has served two years in the Montana House of Representatives, four years in the Montana Senate, and eight years on the Billings City Council. He is a past president of the State Bar of Montana and the Yellowstone Area Bar Association. Brent is a long time Kiwanian and a member of the Board of Directors, and Past President, of Riverstone Health. He has previously served on a variety of local and state boards and commissions.
Personally, Brent is married to Dorothea, a well-known piano instructor and past professor at MSU-Billings. They have raised three children: Brent, Jr., retired from software engineering; Giano, an author and college professor; and Taya Rose, Ph.D., a psychologist and rancher.
Brent's primary claim to fame is being the only Montana attorney who is also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, currently serving as Territorial Vice President. He performs card magic at various local events. He has returned to India on two occasions and was awarded a Distinguished Service Award by the Old Students Association in the village where he had taught, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Brent's hobbies are being the Dog Whisperer to his two rescue dogs, magic, and computing.
